Moving drawings from AutoCAD to Nubo CAD

Nubo CAD reads and writes DXF, not DWG, and it is an early alpha. Use it for viewing DXF files, quick drafts and teaching. Keep AutoCAD for DWG-based production work, and keep backups of anything you open in Nubo CAD.

What to export from AutoCAD

Do these first. Keep your old account active until you have checked everything arrived.

  1. Export from AutoCAD. Use Save As and choose the DXF format, version 2000. Nubo CAD reads R2000 ASCII DXF.
  2. Open in Nubo CAD. Open the .dxf in Nubo CAD. No account is needed to draw; sign in to use cloud files.
  3. Check the result. Compare layers, blocks, dimensions, hatches and text against the original. Fonts and complex objects can change in translation.
  4. Plot or share. Plot to PDF at standard paper sizes, or export DXF, SVG or PNG.

Checklist

  1. Decide whether DWG is required by the people you send drawings to. If it is, keep AutoCAD.
  2. Export one simple drawing as DXF 2000 and open it in Nubo CAD.
  3. Compare it with the original on screen and in a PDF plot.
  4. Use Nubo CAD for viewing and quick edits first.
  5. Keep your DWG originals and backups. Nubo CAD is an early alpha.

What does not move

  • Nubo CAD does not open or save DWG.
  • It is an early alpha: features may change and drawings could be lost.
  • It is 2D only and not a replacement for a full CAD package.
  • There is no migration tool.
